On the 18th of July, 2024, we celebrated the ESC volunteers’ impart of our European Solidarity Corps volunteers, Eva, Jorge, and Jurate, who have made a significant impact in our community. Their dedication, hard work, and contributions have left a lasting legacy, and we are forever grateful for their ESC volunteers’ impart.
Eva’s impart on Women Empowerment
Eva has been instrumental in amplifying the voices of women in our community. She has carried out storytelling projects with the shea butter women, basket weavers, and local artisans, highlighting their struggles and triumphs. Through her ESC volunteers’ impart, Eva has improved the visibility of local products by creating digital stores and an Instagram page, showcasing the talents of our community members to the world. Her efforts have empowered women to take control of their livelihoods and build a better future.
Notably, Eva has also led an innovative initiative to reduce waste and promote sustainability. She collected wasted fabric and clothes that would have otherwise gone to waste, and worked with local artisans to produce beautiful baskets. Additionally, the volunteers empowered local people to create espadrille sandals using waste fabric, plastic, and local jute ropes. However, the espadrille project is still in need of funding to provide training for more people and purchase necessary machines to scale up production.
Jorge’s ICT Initiatives
Jorge has been a driving force in promoting digital literacy in our community. As an ICT volunteer, he has organized and taught classes at the ICT center for students and community members, extending his service to Koongo Senior High School. He has shared his expertise, teaching computer skills, programming. His technical expertise has enabled him to create a website for CoDA, enhancing our online presence and communication. Jorge’s ESC volunteers’ impart has bridged the digital divide, providing access to information and opportunities for growth.
Jurate’s Climate Change Efforts
Jurate has been a champion for environmental awareness and action. As a Climate Change volunteer, she has organized climate change classes in Junior High schools, empowering the next generation to take action against climate change. She has also secured 500 seedlings from the Regional MoFA office, with the support of CoDA, and distributed them to community members and schools, promoting reforestation and sustainability. Additionally, Jurate organized and facilitated a quiz competition with the help of CoDA and her co-volunteers, engaging students in environmental issues and encouraging them to become active change-makers. Her ESC volunteers’ impart has inspired a new wave of environmental stewards.
Their Lasting Legacy
Their ESC volunteers’ impart has been immense, and we are forever grateful for their dedication, hard work, and contributions to our community. We will miss them dearly, but we are also excited to see the amazing things they will achieve next. As they embark on new adventures, we have no doubt that they will continue to make a difference in the world, spreading the spirit of solidarity and service wherever they go.
