Yenpang baskets weavers

I can’t get enough of stories like these! They make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and make me want to be a better person. So, here’s another one for you today from the yenpang baskets weavers – this one’s all about grit, determination, and community.

Meet the Yenpang Basket Weavers Association, a group of women from kongo and the neighboring communities coming together to make something big. Established in 2014 as an umbrella group under KoCDA with funding from NGO Mondo, these women have been weaving their magic, literally!

They make beautiful Bolga handmade baskets that are in demand. And not just locally, but these baskets are exported to Estonia, Canada, Germany, USA, Latvia, and many more countries! How wonderful it must be for these women to know that their handmade creations are spreading joy all over the world?

But what makes this group truly special is that yenpang baskets weavers managed with only one bench to twist and persevered through it all. That’s where the European Solidarity Corps program comes in. Through this incredible initiative, the Yenpang Basket Weavers Association received a donation of 10 benches and 20 stools from Volunteer Eva’s Microfinance.

Can you imagine how excited and grateful yenpang baskets weavers must have felt when they received this? These tools are so much more than just physical objects – they represent recognition, support, and empowerment. With these new benches and stools, they’ll be able to twist elephant grass more easily and precisely, creating even more beautiful and high-quality baskets.
